About This Glove
A piece of Wilson glove history from the 1980s.
There's something special about an old baseball glove that still carries the details of the era in which it was made.
This Wilson A2002-XXL dates to the 1980s, when Wilson was producing some of its premium gloves in Japan. Part of the legendary A2000 family, this left-hand-throw glove features a large, traditional profile and several distinctive design elements that reflect Wilson's approach to glove construction during that period.
The outside of the glove carries two notable markings: Pro Back and Power Snap. The Pro Back design provides an enclosed back and distinctive wrist construction, while the Power Snap feature reflects Wilson's longstanding focus on helping a glove close securely around the ball.
Inside the palm, the words Grip-Tite Pocket are stamped into the leather, a feature with roots in the original A2000 design introduced in the late 1950s. It was part of Wilson's effort to create a deeper, more secure pocket that would help fielders hold onto the ball.
Together, these markings tell part of the story of how baseball gloves were designed and marketed decades ago.
The leather shows the wear and character expected of a glove from this period. Rather than trying to erase those years, we think they're part of what makes an original vintage glove worth owning.
